The Kunshan Contemporary Kunqu Theater/Troupe, established in 2015, is one of the eight prominent specialized Kunqu Opera troupes in China. The theater has a total area of 18,000 m² and comprises modern facilities including Liang Chenyu Kunqu Opera Hall, Kunqu Opera Cultural Center, and Kunqu Opera Tea House. The 400-seat Liang Chenyu Kunqu Opera Hall hosts regular Kunqu Opera performances every Friday night and Saturday afternoon, as well as diverse performance activities such as concerts, children’s plays, Pingtan (the art of storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect), and cross talk. Kunqu Opera Cultural Center, underpinned by various exhibitions and public education programs, offers a state-leading space for cultural exchange, experience and exhibition in the birthplace of Kunqu Opera. Kunqu Opera Tea House, incorporating a delicate Kunqu Opera performance stage, is situated on Dayu Bay Commercial Street, and is becoming a popular destination for cultural tourism and consumption.
